Over the past few years, REC has obtained copies of import letters from CDBS based on facility ID. This includes many (but not all) history cards. REC had retained many of these documents in PDF form and others are in a text form as part of a past program that would convert the documents from PDF to text and then parse the form in order to determine what the subject of the import letter was.
Today's project has uploaded all of those import letters to the System40 server. We have developed an application that would attempt to bring up the import letter by its CDBS document number based on the information previously collected for FCCdata functionality which provided links to those documents on the CDBS Public View server which is being retired on January 2. If REC has a copy of the document available in PDF format, it will display the PDF. If no PDF is available but the converted text version is still available, the system will display the text version. We note that the text versions, especially those letters that were submitted by the applicants may be malformed or missing some information. We have no way to correct this unless we are able to eventually get the PDF version and store it on the server.
REC currently has 30,387 import letters in PDF format and an additional 37,436 import letters that are only available in text format.
In the Import Letters section of FCCdata, if either the PDF or text version of the document is available on the REC server, the system will provide a hyperlink to that document.
We will attempt to identify and locate more of these documents prior to the CDBS shutdown.
