FCC.today: Granted call sign requests

By Michi Bradley | 5:37 PM EDT, Mon August 15, 2022
  • Read more about FCC.today: Granted call sign requests

A very minor enhancement was installed today into FCC.today which, on most granted call sign requests (CSR), the new call sign will appear after the community name in the "Actions" section.

For example:  PODUNK XX (now KFWB)

The new functionality covers only original call sign requests and basic call sign changes.  It does not yet support call sign swaps.

Overview:

Handling of vacant allotments in channel searches

By admin | 7:11 PM EDT, Sat August 06, 2022
  • Read more about Handling of vacant allotments in channel searches

BACKGROUND

enac_lpfm (every nook and cranny) is a legacy (pre-eLMS) table that is used in several REC systems to store specific critical data elements in a single file instead of in a relational database (which is the basis for CDBS, LMS and eLMS).  This table is used mainly for FM channel searches, bulk reports and similar functionality where search speed is essential.  enac_lpfm is updated directly from the daily FCC LMS data load and does not use eLMS as a data source and therefore is authoratative for filings.

ISSUE

On Thursday, August 4, 2022.  REC has received a bad load from the FCC.  This will impact many tools throughout the REC universe.  Recovery attempt in progress.

FCCdata: Fixed issue related to entry by call sign (FCC broadcast)

By Michi Bradley | 1:18 PM EDT, Tue August 02, 2022
  • Read more about FCCdata: Fixed issue related to entry by call sign (FCC broadcast)

REPORTED ISSUE

When the call sign in FCCdata is entered for an FM station, the information is not being retrieved.

OBSERVATIONS

This is an issue that is happening mainly with new FM facilities that were authorized as a result of Auction 109 and the 2021 NCE Filing Window.

FCCdata: Display of AM facilities

By Michi Bradley | 12:32 PM EDT, Tue August 02, 2022
  • Read more about FCCdata: Display of AM facilities

REPORTED ISSUE

FCC AM facility records are not properly displaying in FCCdata.  When the default facility page is retrieved (not narrowed down to a speciifc application), no current engineering record shows on the left side thus not creating a map on the right side.   While the current facility record does show in the application history, it does not show an engineering record on the left, even collapsed.

ROOT CAUSE

eLMS & FCCdata: Silence Log

By admin | 2:41 PM EDT, Sun July 03, 2022
  • Read more about eLMS & FCCdata: Silence Log

eLMS has added a new table silence_log that will track silent station and resumption applications in both CDBS and eLMS real time.

The data in the silence log will be updated once per day during the daily system update.

The silent history of a FM, AM or TV facility in FCCdata has been modified to use the new silence log.

We had identified some issues with the FCC TVFMFS code that is used for measuring field strength contours. The problems mainly existed in situations with extremely short (less than 1 km) contour distances.

By Michi Bradley | 10:38 AM EDT, Thu June 16, 2022
  • Read more about Scheduled maintenance June 18~20, 2022

Over the Juneteenth US federal holiday weekend, REC is planning to perform maintenance on behind the scenes functionality as well as internal and public applications.   Maintenance will start on Saturday, June 18 and will run through Monday, June 21.

No full outages are expected, but users may experience temporary disruptions or error messages on FCCdata and other systems while development is taking place.

LMSbot routine updates and eLMS are not expected to be interrupted during this maintenance window.
